Teton Wireless Offers VoIP Service
6/24/2004
Teton Wireless has launched voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP)
services for residents of Idaho and Montana.
Teton provides broadband wireless, video and voice services in the
Mountain States using licensed MMDS spectrum.
According to Willis “Gene” Twiner, Teton’s CEO and owner, the new VoIP
service is part of the company’s approach to providing its customers
with “high-quality, low-cost services” in its rural market areas.
The VoIP service uses plug-and-play technology that permits both local
and long distance calls in the United States and Canada for a flat
monthly rate of $29.99. There’s an additional cost of $139 for a special
telephone adapter.
Tom Carey, Teton’s director of engineering, described the addition of
VoIP services to Teton’s network as “simple to implement.”
“The privately licensed frequencies making up Teton's wireless network
are very robust, and most IP applications work seamlessly over our
infrastructure.,” Carey stated. “The extremely low latency makes our
delivery ideal for voice.”
The company is also looking at implementing other Internet-based
services in the future, such as a pay-per-view movie offering, Carey
added.
